Ms. Marianne Forbes (Craig) is a highly experienced Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with over three decades of nursing experience spanning adult cardiology, cardiothoracic medicine, and neonatal intensive care. She qualified in 1987 as a registered nurse in adults, and began her career in adult cardiology before moving to South Africa later that year. There, she worked in adult cardiothoracic medicine and CICU before transitioning to neonatal care in 1996. As part of her original training she had experience in post natal and after having her second child realised that this is were her felt my passion lay. She joined a newly established 42-bedded NICU in South Africa and during this time, she completed specialist training in infant feeding and lactation (now SACLC accredited) as well as formal perinatal and neonatal training. Returning to the UK in 2002, she joined the NICU team at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she completed EBN 405 in Neonates and achieved preceptorship and mentorship, enabling her to support and develop nursing colleagues. In 2017, she was appointed Neonatal Clinical Nurse Specialist, supporting nursing staff across the trust with neonatal care, infant feeding, leading practice development, education, and policy work. She has written numerous policies and guidelines relating to neonatal care and infant feeding and are passionate about evidence-based practice, family-centred care, and supporting infants and mother to achieve the best possible start in life.
